The challenge
Fragmented Fire Detection Across a Multi-Site Portfolio Challenge Context Across a national portfolio of commercial and industrial properties, fire detection systems were fragmented and inconsistent. Legacy panels, standalone devices, and manual reporting processes meant head office had limited oversight of alarms, faults, and disablements. Challenge Overview The project team needed to unify multiple, disparate fire alarm systems into a single, coherent digital monitoring platform, providing real-time oversight across all sites and an auditable compliance trail without disrupting ongoing operations. Identifying Key Issues Fire alarm infrastructure varied widely across sites, real-time visibility of alarms and faults was limited, maintenance records were inconsistent, maintenance and fault response were reactive, and lack of centralised data made it difficult to demonstrate compliance at portfolio level.
Our solution — Unified Digital Monitoring & Intelligent Integration
DefendX Fire Protection conducted a comprehensive estate-wide assessment, mapping every site's fire alarm panels, devices, communication protocols, and reporting practices, then developed a clear strategy to connect legacy and modern systems under a single, central monitoring platform. Secure communication gateways and interface modules were installed at each site, standardising event mapping for alarms, faults, and disablements. The centralised platform provided live dashboards, configurable alerts, and event histories. DefendX integrated the platform with existing procedures, maintenance workflows, and emergency response protocols, training staff on consistent handling of alarms and creating a robust, audit-ready 'golden thread' of compliance.
The outcome
Results Achieved Real-time portfolio oversight via central dashboards, faster and more targeted response through automatic alerts, stronger compliance and audit readiness, data-driven performance insights, and a scalable, future-proof solution supporting long-term, estate-wide fire safety resilience.
