The challenge
Upgrading Fire Detection Across a Large Manufacturing and Corporate Estate Challenge Context A major manufacturing facility with adjoining corporate offices was operating with ageing and fragmented fire detection and alarm systems. Incremental building changes, production line modifications, and a patchwork of legacy panels had created inconsistent coverage, unclear zoning, and gaps in life-safety protection. Challenge Overview The project required a full replacement and integration of fire detection and alarm systems across industrial and corporate areas, needing to unify monitoring, improve response times, support operational continuity, and align with BS 5839 and insurer requirements. Identifying Key Issues Legacy conventional and early addressable panels created inconsistent coverage, unclear zoning across industrial halls and offices, inconsistent compliance documentation, intermittent faults and false alarms, and the need for phased installation to maintain safety during ongoing operations.

Solution Implementation DefendX Fire Protection delivered a structured, compliance-led upgrade across the manufacturing facility and corporate offices, providing a fully integrated, addressable fire detection and alarm system while maintaining continuous operational coverage. The project began with a comprehensive site-wide survey, mapping all existing panels, detectors, call points, and zones against the updated fire strategy and BS 5839 requirements. A phased installation approach was adopted to maintain full fire coverage throughout the works, rationalising zoning for clear cause-and-effect logic across corporate, warehouse, and manufacturing areas. All works were carried out by qualified engineers using manufacturer-approved systems, with each installation photo-documented, digitally logged, and fully commissioned to create a robust, audit-ready compliance trail.
